Chased Satisfaction

Satisfaction always evades us. We go to school..but there is always that feeling that the world is hiding something we don’t know. We get a career, but we have to be on top of the mountain. We get married, but our companion always seems to have something missing that we always wanted. We have kids but they never seem to fulfill something you always wanted to. There is always that void in us, that never seems to be filled no matter where we go, what we do, or whom we talk to. What is it we want from the world? From life? What is that fulfillment and how far do we go to achieve it? Whatever it is, the more we chase it, the faster and farther it runs. Like sand, the harder we try to hold it in our hands, the faster it slips through our fingers. Is there really something out there in the world that is meant to be found by us? Or is it something in ourselves that always wants something to look for?

I think the key to satisfaction is a keen understanding that we are resource constrained creatures. This means accepting that our existence will come to an end and valuing every opportunity and material possession you may have. In addition, it also makes us prioritize which material possessions and activities are really valuable to us, so we can extract the maximum satisfaction from them.

On the other hand, if we center our life primarily around material experiences and maximizing only for them, I am afraid we will never be satisfied, because the material desires will be infinite, however, our existence will remain limited.

With the mindset that life is limited, each day or activity is an opportunity that hopefully leads to continuous satisfaction.

Oh wow!
Well all I can say was I think this was written for me (you know just like the cuts get deeper and falls get steeper was for you), I just really connected. I've always felt this way. I love it. You are really an amazing writer and no matter what Hussein says I will never be as good as you :). I'm really impressed though not surprised because you are sooo smart and writing is just another one of those amazing talents of yours. And I won't get all philosophical on which parts I agree on and dissect and blah blah and is there really a way to achieve satisfaction because thats for you and Husain =P. But its great and sure did make me review my thoughts a little (take that as a compliment, it takes a lot to make me do that). Anyways, yeah its amaaazing. :)
Love ya, Bia
